The EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) will go live in May 2018 with stringent rules around the rights of the "data subject" (i.e. the client) with respect to "right of access" , "right to object" &  "right to be forgotten / right of erasure" not only from the domain of "the controller" (i.e. the Telecom service provider in this case) but also each and every of "the processors" associated with the controller (i.e. the outsourced IT/BPO partners, the ad agencies, etc) for processing any of the data related to the data subject.

Pls refer to my recent article on how this may impact the "data oil" economy:   Mukul Gupta on LinkedIn: "GDPR - May 2018 -...

The real-time neural graphs of some niche AI startups do have the capability to give quick and comprehensive visibility to internal/external compliance officers towards GDPR compliance but are the Telecom service providers ready to embrace the full power of AI ?

Good article on how regulation of "data oil"  may impact the internet giants ! As mentioned, AI definitely should have a bigger role to play to map all traces of information related to a data subject. AI along with Big Data may drive the solution which may take sometime to mature. However, it is possible that some of the free services may get charged with such regulations coming in place !
