  • 1.  Policy Set \ Policy Group \ Policy Rule Base : Relation with Product offer

    Posted Jul 29, 2020 14:29
    Hi Team,
In our product, we've implemented Policy rule base (Policy statement, Policy Action, Policy condition). Rule engine evaluate every policy based on input and matched action fired accordingly. That is perfectly fine. I've below queries.

    1) Is there any direct relation with Product Offers and it's Policy rule base?  If not, can we associate multiple policy rules with product offer?
    2) For any new rule implementation, do we always required to implement new rule by extending policy?
    3) As we know, I've definition of policy base rule so rule engine evaluates policies based on external input and executes action. Along with it, instead of executing rule itself, can we send rule definition to other system to evaluate by their own and how such rule can directly bind with product offers?

    Hi Himanshu

I see you posted this question on the Open API discussion board, perhaps it would be more appropriate for the Frameworx board. I'm tagging the Information Framework (SID) leaders @Cecile Ludwichowski and @Dirk Rejahl in the hope that they will see your post and be able to react to it from SID perspective.

The Open API does not currently have treatment of Policy at all.

    Hope it helps

    Hi Jonathan,

Have a question with TMF620-Product Catalog Management API.
ProductOfferPrice as list of Constraints. Is there any Open API that allows to manage these Constraints. I am assuming these constraints are to be used to define rules to use Product Characteristics Values to associate price.

    Thank you

    Hi Srinivas
The current plan is to remove (deprecate) the Constraint and replace by reference to Policy, where a new API is being planned for Policy Management.
This will presumably happen in v5 APIs, but still not sure when.
    Hope it helps

Thank you Jonathan.. This helps and aligns with what I was hoping as well.

Are you aware of any Open API to manage Policies?

    Hi Jonathan

I noticed that you have updated the constraint (ref) to policy within the Product Catalog Management API for v5.  However, the service/resource domains do not appear to have made this change.  Any idea whether there are any plans to do this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Himanshu,

    1) Is there any direct relation with Product Offers and it's Policy rule base? If not, can we associate multiple policy rules with product offer?
It exist in SID a relationship "ProductOfferingPriceGovernedBy" between ProductOffering and PolicySet (PolicyRuleBase beeing a subclass of PolicySet). Refer to Figure Pr.14 - Product Offering Price Governed by Policy in GB922 Product guide book.

    2) For any new rule implementation, do we always required to implement new rule by extending policy?
Not quiet sure to understand your question. If you want to add a triggering event with same conditions and actions, you dont have to create a new rule, just add a new event to the existing PolicyRule. Same thing if you want to add an action applicable according to the same triggerring event and condition.
And for condition, you might define complex conditions using AND / OR.

    3) As we know, I've definition of policy base rule so rule engine evaluates policies based on external input and executes action. Along with it, instead of executing rule itself, can we send rule definition to other system to evaluate by their own and how such rule can directly bind with product offers?
This question is more related to implementation choices and SID doesn' answer such a question.

    See you,
