  • 1.  Mapping of ODA blocks with Enterprise Domain of eTOM

    Posted Mar 10, 2020 17:47
    Hello Team,

Are the enterprise domain process blocks mapped to Open Digital Architecture.
ODA seems to define the functional blocks to define various solutions for Enterprises however there doesn't seem to be any mapping with the Enterprise domain blocks like Enterprise risk management, Strategy and planning etc.

    any pointers will be appreciated.

    Thanks for the invitation Jonathan.
I have tried to do a mapping of the Functions in the Application Framework (the lowest level in AF, aka the Functional Framework) and noticed the same issue.
The Application Framework have the Applications (and subsequently their Application Functions) grouped in the same Domain structure as "eTOM". Of Course I noticed that the ODA FA Functional Blocks did not mention a lot of the functions in the Enterprise Domain, and for the Application Framework also the Integration Domain.
Some of the Enterprise functions will be mapped to the "Intelligence Management Block", but a lot of the more "Corporate Management" type of functions (e.g. Finance, HR, Salary, etc.) are not mentioned in the ODA FA. ODA FA is very Direct Business/Commercial Oriented.
I accepted ODA to be a model for the commercial view of an enterprise, and not to have the ambition to be a full Enterprise Model.
In my mapping I introduced two new FA Blocks "Non-Commerce" and "Corporate Information Technology" to be able to map the "not direct commercial functions".
If ODA Functional Architecture shall model all functionality of an Enterprise it needs to be improved.

For clarity Kaj is referring to   GB929F Application Framework Functional Decomposition v19.5.1

    Hello,

I checked IG1167 version 6 and the mapping is the same as in version 5: work in progress. Example for party:
    PARTY

However, I know TMForum has done a much more complete mapping because I've seen them for PARTY, CC, PROD and INTELLIGENCE. Below is one example I curated for my own needs.
Unfortunately, I forgot the source document where I extracted the information:
    PARTY

    green: new process
red: process that fix more than 1 ODA domain and needs to be split
    white: entirely mapped

@TMFORUM, can you share/publish the document where the latest mapping is available?

In the detailed definition of ODA components, a mapping to eTOM is a structural part of the templates. A few components have already been published as draft, and more are in progress.
Go to https://projects.tmforum.org/wiki/display/PUB and search for TMFC (currently TMFC001 and TMFC007 are available).

I cannot speak for the ODA team, but my guess is that the eTOM mapping in the component specs supersedes any high-level mapping at the level of the ODA functional domains.
@Sylvie Demarest and @Gaetano Biancardi might want to provide their perspective.
    Hope it helps

hopefully we can still access the document showing L2 processes mapped to ODA blocks as shown in my screenshot.
    Thanks!

    Hi Matthieu,
You will find the detailed descriptions of the ODA Functional blocks in GB1022 - ODA Functional Architecture Guidebook (eTOM, SID and Open APIs mappings).
This guidebook presents the "normative" part of ODA Functional Architecture. And we keep IG1167 - ODA Functional Architecture Exploratory Report for evolutions proposals, subjects of discussions, implementation scenarii, ...
A new version of the mappings, and of GB1022, is planned in Q1 2022 to take into account Frameworks 21.5 published soon.
    Best regards
