    Given that the underlying technologies do exist, how do you set up the basis for designing and implementing a business model that is able to monetize IoT?

    I am working on this definition and model. It is being a challenge bigger than I expected. Not because of the business itself but due to vision limitations I have to change within carriers (telcos).

    IoT is something to be constructed cross-Telco, I mean, it is important to understand that it requires a multi-departmental team, covering from devices to engineering and IT, passing to marketing and VAS. Telcos vertical (or cilo) based structure is generating more problems than aggregating solutions.

    That said, I am trying to create a multiple sides offer. It will vary according device provider and connection capability. But I am very confident that a digital ecosystem is the way to go.

    Hi Nikos - thanks for raising this topic. In our work - both as investors and advisors, we've seen several models for monetization. I will be sharing some case studies and providing some insights and pointers in my session on monetization strategies on Wednesday 11.25am.

    Your monetization options depend very much on one's industry positioning. However, it is not sufficient to simply establish a business model. Very often, business models fail because of organizational, ecosystem, or capability constraints that must be evaluated before embarking down a particular path (we use a 5-factor framework in our work).

    Monetization is among the most challenging aspect when moving into IoT Technologies, often due to legacy business models. The complexity of the ecosystem requires an agile and flexible business model to create a revenue-generating solution set-up.
    Business use cases for the IoT should provide value to customers by streamlining processes, making services more efficient and reliable, and reducing pain points in the customer experience.
