ZOOM Management of Virtualization, e.g., SDN and NFV, is disrupting the business models of service providers and their suppliers alike, whilst creating new business opportunities, especially in delivering agile innovative network services for emerging industry verticals. The ZOOM project, in release 17.0, is focussing on three areas;
- Define and develop practical assets (e.g., APIs or API extensions) to transform business and systems to support virtualization / NFV, currently focussed on defining hybrid infrastructure platforms and a minimum viable product to implement such a platform.
- Automated Software On-Boarding and Lifecycle Management - Describing onboarding scope and lifecycle, including a software packaging metamodel & metadata, the specification of packaging metadata, taking inputs from various descriptor definitions (e.g. Licensing, metrics, packaging, maturity) and integrating them into a consistent and implementable format.
- Consolidate existing analysis and published material to create a guide, showing the nature and operations of an “Operations Centre of the Future.”
Collaboration in all areas is most welcome, we are especially seeking people to help with the following tasks (more information attached):
- Review & update an existing technical report on Lifecycle compatibility; are any updates needed for the management of virtualized functions?
- Derive a use case for the Hybrid Infrastructure Platform from onboarding of new Resource Functions, to selection, instance creation, inventory and assurance.
