  • 1.  Impact to virtualization CS/PS Core without NFV

    Posted Apr 20, 2018 06:31
    Dear All,

Actually, in my company, the IT department already deployed a traditional virtualized infrastructure and some VAS nodes already still running on that. Many other nodes should be migrated as well quite soon. My concern is regarding know if exists any impact in converging my CS/PS core into a traditional virtualization architecture instead of virtualized on NFV architecture.

    Best Wishes,

Good question and I don't believe there is a settled industry position on this topic
ETSI NFV work has been predicated up an OpenStack virtual machine HEAT template environment . there have been statements that ETSI will look at other solutions such as containers.
The ONAP Open Source project is looking at ta multi-VIM solution such that it can also operate on cloud native environments
see https://wiki.onap.org/display/DW/Developer+Wiki  and  Multi VIM/Cloud Project
TM Forum is working with ONAP ( and other Open Source communities ) to contribute our open API and understand how multi-VIM   impacts our implementation work in our Open Digital Architecture.

    Hi Marton,

Are you using VMware ESXi ? frankly speaking if your company has no clear plan for Transformation may be this is OK because anyways Virtualization is first step for NFV .

However for those operators like us who have clear plans to evolve all Telco applications to Cloud seamlessly the Proposed method is Step2 of NFV called Cloudification you can think of this as separation of virtualization from application and integration based on Standard API . you can red OPNFV and ETSI ISG documents specially Sol1,3,5 to read more about it .

Also I want to share you information that VMware itself now have a product called VIO which is same like Open stack , in SDXCentral there is a very good webinar which explains for NFV why VMware itself go for Cloud and issues .

In a nutshell the Operations , Automation and  Layer split these three are dimensions can not solve by virtualization  . just as an example in virtualization you all H/W faults need go to OSS directly like using HP ILO , Dell IPDRAC etc but in NFV you can use Open source methods like Sensu etc to aggregate it together with Cloud . this is just one example and list is huge .

I hope you got the point  ........... I still suggest to convince your team to adopt a mature phase of NFV which is based on Cloudification not virtualization .

if still some one disagrees not forget to read below

    Dear Mr. Saad,

Perfect point of view regarding your concerns. Definitely, I never think about the strategy for services cloudification in a Mobile Telecom industry. Of course, I will focus on that subject after now and I guarantee we can chat more about that in the future soon.

Thanks so much for your comments and have a lovely day.
