What is the best/right way to link/relate a quote with an opportunity id ?

We have sales management system which manage lead and opportunity and quotation system which generate quotation for a given opportunity. There is no quote resource in 699 (Sales Management) and no opportunity in 648 (Quote Mgmt). Any advise on linking an opportunity to quote (without extending) ? Or am I missing something.

My understanding is, there is no reference of opportunity in Quote or Vise versa in TMF....
