What's the best strategy for the OSS Transformation phase on the Digital Journey. Best of suite vs breed?

The deployment of NFV is part of a larger and more fundamental transformation of CSPs into the Telco Cloud. In this world CSPs will virtualize their infrastructure (NFV), connect the various VNFs with Software Defined Networking (SDN), migrate their OSS/BSS into private or public clouds with the aim of running agile/DevOps operations to deliver on-demand, real-time innovative digital services to consumers, enterprises and various industry verticals (IoT). In this real-time, on-demand context the OSS needs to be fully automated and the Service Assurance layer in particular will likely be the brain that maintains end-to-end view of QoS/QoE and commands the NFV orchestration process in closed loop fashion. So You need to select a best-of-breed integrated Assurance suite (PM, FM, SQM, Analytics, Automation)  that is cloud native and can fulfil that role of closed loop assurance across the hybrid virtualized and physical network. Hi Mounir

Thank you for sharing the article!

    One doubt though:
When you say "Service Assurance CMDB" do you refer to a dynamic inventory shared by both service assurance and service fullfilment plataform? This CMDB should contain both services and resources right?

    Hi Bruno,

In an ideal world the LSO (Life Cycle Orchestration) should contain a "Unified Dynamic Inventor"y that caters for both Assurance and fulfilment/orchestration processes. However, in many instances the Inventory is either late to be implemented or has data coverage and accuracy issues. In which case the Integrated assurance block should ideally have its own integrated CMDB that caters for all Assurance functions. This CMDB should have an API towards the Inventory systems and should be able to fill any gaps with this inventory through alternative topology/configuration discovery capabilities. In this way Assurance will not be dependent upon the availability of a 100% reliable unified inventory.

    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Mounir
