  • 1.  Does TMF620 support exposing Product Rules

    Posted Jul 15, 2025 04:24

    Hello All,

My requirement is to expose Product Rules along with Product Characteristics and Relationship from Product Master (e.g. VLocity EPC); Does Product Catalogue Management (620) API suite support exposing product rules. To my understanding TMF620 latest version supports exposing product characteristics and relationship but I am not sure about rules

    what's the best alternate option

    • duplicate product rules in customer interaction platform
    • extend 620 to support exposing product rules

    Please suggest

can you clarify your question, it's not clear what you ask.

if you look at the payload it's evident it supports "dozen" of different business rules "out of the box". And if they are too complex, the catalogue can reference a policy Id that an external rule engine can manage.

Yes,  you can call TMF679 Product Order Qualification to confirm the requested Netflix plan is eligible, but POQ alone won't hide downgrade options. Model the allowed upgrade path in TMF620 Product Catalog, apply an upgrade-only rule in your CRM/middleware to filter the UI, and use POQ as the final eligibility check. In short: Catalog + business rules for display, POQ for validation.

    Hi,

As per understanding the Velocity CPQ supports the Product characteristics as well as rules. Both can be exposed over the TMF API. However the rules which are being maintained in Velocity has rule framework to keep the advance and context level rules. Now maintaining the entire rule in Velocity shall dependent on the performance of the system. As Mattieue suggested, in case these are too complex then it could maintained through the external rule engine (standalone or CRM based)

    Best regards

If the question is more about translating the rules from your CRM/BSS into TMF620, then the service exposing TMF620 would have the logic to translate the BSS rules.

we have similar patterns where we have microservices translating legacy APIs into a TMF API.

TMF620 offers quite a lot of product rules (and to a lesser degree, pricing rules) out of the box. You can extend TMF620 but the service consuming TMF620 would have to be updated to understand your extensions. We did it (very small change) and I know one BSS vendor that has added a lot of nice extensions to TMF APIs to offer capabilities that already existed in their BSS but not in TMF620.

I'm not sure about "duplicate product rules in customer interaction platform". Is this a complete system that provide business capabilities (that could partially duplicate your BSS ) or is it just a frontend?

    Hello Matthieu,

Thanks a lot for the valuable feedback.

Its a Customer facing APP backed up my Microservice layer which is used for Customer interaction. The product offers and product specification are modelled in VLocity EPC. the characteristics in product specification have rules like (for e.g. "Bandwidth" is an integer and "physical interface" is alphanumeric with format a\b\c etc.). When customer is configuring parameters for a specific product at the APP, wanted to ensure that product rules are validated at the app layer itself instead of sending it to VLocity and failing it there . But I got the answer from your explanation above

    Thanks once again

    Hello Saikat,

As pointed above the Policy API TMF723 might suit your needs. It has the ECA (Event, condition, action) framework which can be utilized to realize your use case. The Policy ID as mentioned above reply can be referenced in the product offering, to instantiate the rule.
