Following the release of IG1492C (AI Talent and Skills Matrix v1.0.0), I revisited an Autonomous Network Skills Matrix that I shared with the Community last year.
One interesting observation is that these two frameworks appear to be complementary rather than overlapping.
In my Autonomous Network Skills Matrix, workforce capabilities are described along three dimensions:
• AI/ML Skills
• Automation Skills
• Autonomous Network (AN) Skills
The recent IG1492C specification provides a comprehensive AI competency taxonomy, role catalogue, and skills framework. This raises an interesting possibility: Could IG1492C serve as the standard AI competency taxonomy for the AI/ML axis of an Autonomous Network Workforce Framework?
My current view is:
· IG1492C addresses AI competencies and roles.
· An AN Skills Matrix addresses the capabilities required to design, operate, and govern Autonomous Networks.
· Therefore, IG1492C could provide the Competency Layer, while the AN Skills Matrix provides the Capability Layer.
Conceptually:
· IG1492C → "What AI competencies does a person have?"
· AN Skills Matrix → "What capabilities are required to operate at a given AN maturity level?"
This may provide a practical way to connect AI talent development with Autonomous Network workforce transformation.
As Autonomous Networks continue to evolve, should we start thinking about an Autonomous Network Workforce Framework that bridges:
· AI competencies (e.g. IG1492C)
· Automation skills
· AN operational capabilities and maturity levels
I would be interested in hearing how other CSPs are approaching this challenge.
