eSIM Management in Customer Orders

At our Telco, we're designing the sell of eSIMs in the ordering process. From a TAM and functional framework perspective, which applications and functions are best suited to handling eSIM orders? We understand that Customer Order Management is certainly involved, but we're unsure whether to treat the eSIM as a physical or logical resource when managing orders. Any advice is welcome. Managing eSIMs within order workflows brings both opportunities and complexity. Some thoughts and questions:

Key advantages:

·         Faster provisioning — no physical SIM swap needed

·         Better flexibility — remote profile downloads, switching between profiles

·         Enhanced user experience — fewer delays or logistic issues

Challenges to address:

·         Integration with backend order / OSS/BSS systems

·         Security & authentication (profile download, identity verification)

·         Lifecycle operations — suspension, reactivation, profile deletion

·         Versioning and rollback support

It’s helpful to use an underlying platform or orchestration layer that can manage eSIM operations reliably (activation, profile management, rollback) and integrate seamlessly with order systems.
